Surgery
When we got here this morning it was like a reunion. Henley’s child life specialist from 6 years ago was here to welcome her back and we even found pictures of the two of them from 6 years ago. She assured Henley that she had already called “nutrition” and requested popsicles for her this time around. Ha! We met with Dr. G and the anesthesiologist and talked through things again. They asked Henley how she was feeling and she said “my ankle hurts”. This is due to her sprained ankle from ice skating yesterday at Rockefeller Center. The anesthesiologist assured her that she would take care of the pain.
The surgery should be around 4 hours or so. Henley is back in the operating room now. We were able to walk her back there, lay her down on the table and be there with her until she fell asleep. This is one of the things I appreciate so much about NY Presbyterian. I want to be with her until the last possible second and then the second she is awake. Walking out of the OR is a feeling I can’t even describe. It’s like walking away and leaving half of your heart in a room you can’t be in. The last thing I said to the anesthesiologist was “take care of my baby”. Now all I can do is pray.
